Depression is quickly becoming a worldwide epidemic. You may have experienced it yourself or know someone who has. According to World Health Organization (WHO), depression is a common mental disorder. Globally, it is estimated that 5.0% of adults suffer from depression.
It is a leading cause of disability worldwide and a significant contributor to the global disease burden. Depression can lead to suicide.
A lot of this is a result of the increase of stress in our lives. Stress is our bodies’ reaction to pressure. It causes you to feel overwhelmed or incapable of dealing with mental or emotional stress.
What are the signs of stress? You may feel anxious, afraid, angry or aggressive, sad, irritable, frustrated or depressed. These emotions can sometimes cause physical symptoms, worsening your emotional turmoil.
How will your body react if you are stressed? You may experience headaches, nausea, indigestion, digestive issues such as constipation, bloating, or diarrhea, shallow or hyperventilating breathing, sweating, heart palpitations, and aches and pains.
You can’t avoid stress, but you can keep it from becoming “too much”. Don’t be afraid to seek professional help if you continue to feel overwhelmed by stress.
It does not imply that you are a failure.
It is critical to seek assistance as soon as possible so that you can begin to feel better.
