Do you listen to your podcasts at 1.5x speed? Or watch YouTube videos at 1.2x speed? Have you noticed on apps like Voxer and Whatsapp there is the option to play back audio on 1.5x or 2x speed?
Even movies now will edit cuts down to 2-3 seconds where as in olden day movies it would be 7-9 seconds.
Everything is speeding up and you will notice that it is affecting you too. You will be speaking quicker, moving quicker, and thinking quicker.
This is all great in one respect because you will get 10 times more things done in a day than you would have 40 years ago..but...
What is the price we pay for this speeding up?
We aren't sleeping well, we are experiencing increased levels of anxiety, panic, which leads to depression and low energy, poor health, then we start to medicate or self-medicate because its all too much, and yet we are still moving really fast and things just get worse and worse.
Why is this happening? There is a 'quickening' occurring on the planet.
The question is, are humans causing it or are humans being affected BY it? This is open to debate, some say the quickening is a subtle frequency shift that's been building and speeding up over time. It will continue to accelerate until there is a snap, a reset and things go back to a very slow pace.
When we look at apocalyptic films like Independence Day, The Road, The Book of Eli, and 2012 we tend to see that after the crisis, that is when things slow down dramatically. There is a re-assessment of values, and we go back to basics. Obviously, we don't want to invite a crisis of such proportions for things to change and yes this IS Hollywood we are talking about also.
But what can we do to slow down in a 'quickening' world?
Do your own re-assessment of values.
Try not to let society condition you to believe what's important. Spend some time in critical, deep thinking and ask if you are being molded by the collective or if are you sovereign in your state.
Find activities that will help you slow down, preventing the quickening happening in your life. Create gaps in your day to just sit, and Be. Meditate, be in nature, take naps, read, doodle, sing, dance, create art, be with family, get a pet, commune with God, sit in an empty church, mosque, synagogue or temple.
Find the gaps. Create gaps. And importantly, develop a bond with stillness and silence. Let it envelop you and sit in it. Relish it. Savour it. It's the greatest gift of all.
Then you will be sovereign, and you can watch the quickening from the sidelines and choose not to be a part of it. That's FREEDOM.
